Asian American Federation Hosts 3 Events Commemorating 10th Anniversary of 9/11

WHAT: The Asian American Federation is commemorating the 10th anniversary of September 11th with educational events to provide opportunities to learn about Asian American experiences, reflecting on the progress made in healing the wounds and rebuilding communities over the past decade, as well as renewing efforts to help with America’s challenges that still remain.

There will be a screening of the Federation’s documentary, Tribute & Remembrance: Asian Americans after September 11th(55mins)(2003), which captures various ways in which the different segments of the Asian American community have been affected, including the economic impact on Chinatown and on the city’s taxi drivers; racial profiling, detention and deportation as experienced by many South Asian/Muslim community members; as well as mental health impact on families of victims and Chinatown residents. The film also touches on the philanthropic impulse of Asian Americans in times of crisis. Following each screening, there will be a discussion on the status of issues raised in the film ten years later. An exhibition of Corky Lee’s award winning 9/11 photographs will be displayed at these events. Events supported by AT&T.
