New York Asian Women’s Center
Hotline Manager

Founded in 1982, the New York Asian Women’s Center is the first organization on the East Coast to address the issues of domestic violence in the Asian communities. With the only 24-hour multi-lingual hotline and shelter program for battered Asian women, the Center provides counseling and advocacy to Asian battered women and children who have witnessed domestic violence.

The intent of our programs is to be salubrious: we promote strong relationships between mother and child and supportive adult to adult interactions. We reinforce positive behavior and healthy attitudes. We assist clients in gaining essential skills and aim to advance psychological functioning.

NYAWC’s hotline is a crucial part of our operations. It is generally the first contact new clients have with the agency, and it is a lifeline for current clients as well. Because we are multi-lingual in more than a dozen languages, managing the hotline is a highly complex task that requires both strong administrative skills as well as some clinical insight. Many hotline calls are administrative in nature, but many are calls from women who are in crisis or who are looking for advice about their domestic violence situations.

The Hotline Manager is a new position. S/he will be responsible, along with the Director of Shelter Operations, for overall management of the hotline. S/he will supervise and schedule the Hotline Counselors, ensuring they receive on-going trainings and supervision and that the hotline has full coverage in over a dozen languages. S/he will troubleshoot hotline processes. In addition, s/he will be answering the hotline when needed and screening clients for shelter.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ability to speak Mandarin, at least conversationally, required.
  • Ability to speak Cantonese as well a plus.
  • At least 1 year’s proven success in handling complex administrative tasks, such as project coordination or management.
  • Social work or human services experience strongly preferred, or a willingness to be trained.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent crisis management skills required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Some schedule flexibility may be required
  • Any tasks as assigned by Director or Executive Director
