Executive Director
Ascend is a not-for-profit national association. The mission of Ascend is to enhance the presence and influence of current and future business leaders of Asian and Pacific Islander descent and to serve as a collective voice for those business communities.
Ascend strives to:
- Cultivate the skills of members and encourage the development of Pan Asians in the business world
- Promote a high standard of professional ethics
- Serve as the voice of Pan Asians in the corporate business community and promote the interests of the Asian/Pacific Islander American communities.
These goals will be achieved by providing relevant professional development, educational and networking events as well as opportunities to contribute to the community. Ascend encourages participation from all business professionals, students and others interested in the success of Pan Asians in the business world.
Ascend is experiencing significant growth on all fronts and many critical activities need dedicated attention beyond current Board members and volunteers working in each Committee. Having grown to 11 professional chapters and 18 student chapters throughout the US, Ascend is looking for an enthusiastic leader to serve as the full time Executive Director and play a critical role in helping build a stronger organization to better serve our members and achieve our organizational mission and objectives.
The potential impact of this role is great, and requires a seasoned organizational leader with a strong desire to serve a not-for-profit organization to make things happen. The Executive Director will be the center of day-to-day operations of Ascend. She/he will be a key point person working, on behalf of the Board, with our corporate sponsors, professional and student chapters, sister organizations, and other key organizations and individuals that are important to the growth of Ascend.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organizational infrastructure development and management
- Coordination of Board meetings
- Internal and external communications
- Project management of initiatives/activities organized by the National Committees
- Fundraising
- Management of outside consultants/vendors
- Liaison to professional and student chapters
- Some travel as needed
- Management of key National Corporate Sponsorship programs, membership programs and national Ascend events.
- Management of a small staff, interns and volunteers
- Manage the national convention along with our event planners
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate should have the following experience/skills:
- Minimum 2-year not-for-profit leadership/operation experience
- Minimum 5-year general management experience
- Strong project management skills
- Solid communication skills, both written and oral
- Excellent team player and team leader with good consensus building skills
- Ability to prioritize
- Can juggle multiple activities
- Familiarity with accounting, finance and related business professions preferred
- Knowledge of Asian cultures a big plus
- Experience in a start-up situation and ability to help develop policies and procedures preferred
- Not afraid to role up his/her sleeves as necessary
