Forthcoming Report on Asian American Poverty in New York City

The Asian American Federation will examine the demographics of the Asian Americans in poverty. The purpose is to illuminate the often hidden issue of poverty among Asian Americans and understand the diversity of the Asian poor. Census Bureau data from the Census 2000 and the 2006 American Community Survey will be used to describe those who live below the Federal poverty level as well as those who live in households with incomes up to twice the Federal poverty level. The report will examine such factors as age, sex, disability, education, employment, industry and occupation, English ability, and languages spoken. Where data is available, the report will describe the demographics of the poor by Asian ethnicities and borough and map Asian poverty by New York City Community Districts. Release is scheduled for early fall 2008.
